Progress on the Front Door

Remember the door we picked up in Portland? Here is that post.

A few weeks ago- Aura arrived home to find Brett had turned the living room into his workshop- sawdust flying everywhere. He made the door frame - inside the house- in the middle of the living room!-while I was out of town . (good thing- I would have freaked to see that mess on my white furniture) (Aura helped him remove the evidence.) When I got home- there was the door + frame propped in the living room. I looked around- and figured he had made it there (I know him.)- but didn't see a mess. Why else would that door be sitting inside?

Yesterday, Brett ripped out the old window, tore out the wall and installed the door. Now we need to find some molding for trim, re-key the locks and a few minor adjustments. We need to purchase a new doorbell too.

Can you visualize a porch roof and a bit grander of an entrance? We are making progress.

Dismal Nitch

World's Longest Garage Sale

The entire Long Beach Peninsula is one long garage sale on Memorial Day Weekend. Something for everyone is to be found.

This garage sale a few blocks from our house- is SUPER organized and SUPER pretty. Look- they even have matching patchwork aprons and flags decorating the sale! The neighbors are all decked out in the same matching decor!

Smoked Salmon Chowder for lunch

Now that the markets are opening up for the tourists, we can get a little 'smoked salmon chowder' for lunch at the Port of Ilwaco. Brett and I strolled along the water front and shared a bowl.

Al Fresco Business Meeting

Isn't this a fun place to hold a little business meeting? The red bag in the photo- contains my lap top. It was a very pretty day. As I sat facing the woman in blue- I could see ships on the Columbia. Since it was a bit foggy- the horns blew... the sound immediately took me back to my bedroom in St. Helens on Riverside Drive. We always heard the fog horns as the cargo ships made their way up the river.

Astoria Coffee House serves Stumptown Coffee! They also have WiFi- which is nice.

Big Check Photo

Part of my new duties... press photos. We received a BIG CHECK from the credit union in Seaside. The day of the photo and ceremony it rained (of course). This is taken at THE COVE in Seaside. It is where people surf- and Lewis & Clark had their SALT WORKS there.

Bill Clinton visits Astoria

My week started off by helping get bodies to the Clinton rally. (yes, I am GOP- but I am networked and know many people) A former President coming to visit is a really big deal. I understand the last time that happened was Eisenhower. What goes around- comes around. People call me for help... I am glad to help and do not restrict myself to partisan activities. This is a really big thing for our community. These photos were in the Astoria paper.
